HWA- DOD ORDERS 500 MILLION CORONAVIRUS VACCINES INJECTORS WITH RFID/GPS TRACKING

( WARNING THAT THE LANGUAGE IS STRONG)

MILITARY vaccine mandates? Dept. of Defense purchasing 500 million ApiJect syringes to inject every person in America with coronavirus vaccine

THE QUESTION IS WHY?

Anyone who thought the US military was preparing to force vaccinate every American with a coronavirus vaccine has just found strong evidence to confirm the plan. According to a press release from the US Dept. of Defense, featuring an announcement from Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, the DoD is partnering with HHS to acquire 500 million ApiJect vaccine injection devices, with deliveries expected to begin in October of this year.

According to the press release:

Spearheaded by the DOD’s Joint Acquisition Task Force (JATF), in coordination with the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, the contract will support “Jumpstart” to create a U.S.-based, high-speed supply chain for prefilled syringes beginning later this year by using well-established Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) aseptic plastics manufacturing technology, suitable for combatting COVID-19 when a safe and proven vaccine becomes available.

The ApiJect syringes come with an optional RFID tag so that health care workers can track the GPS location and identity of the individual being injected. Via the Apiject.com website:

With an optional RFID/NFC tag on each BFS prefilled syringe, ApiJect will make this possible. Before giving an injection, the healthcare worker will be able to launch a free

mobile app and “tap” the prefilled syringe on their phone, capturing the NFC tag’s unique serial number, GPS location and date/time. The app then uploads the data to a government-selected cloud database. Aggregated injection data provides health administrators an evolving real-time “injection map.”

Yes, you will be tracked, tagged, bagged and injected, most likely against your will.

Don’t forget that this is being married with President Trump’s “Operation Warp Speed” which aims to bypass all the usual protocols of vaccine safety testing and clinical trials, delivering up to 300 million coronavirus vaccine doses before the end of calendar 2020.

STAT's Covid-19 Drugs and Vaccines Tracker

500 million prefilled syringes by 2021

The $138 million contract aims to achieve, “the ultimate production goal of over 500 million prefilled syringes (doses) in 2021.”

Notably, there are only around 327 million people living in the United States. That means this DoD / HHS project will produce enough coronavirus vaccine doses to cover every man, woman and child in America.

The only reason they would need so many doses is if there is a plan under way to force vaccines on everyone.

If coronavirus vaccines were planned to be optional — respecting the vaccine choice of individuals — not more than 100 million doses would be needed. The fact that 500 million doses are being manufactured is an admission that the DoD and HHS plan to make coronavirus vaccines mandatory.

Present-day vaccines that claim to treat measles, mumps, chicken pox, HPV and other infectious diseases are deliberately manufactured with a bizarre list of toxic and unethical ingredients, including:

  • Aluminum
  • Mercury (Thimerosal)
  • Antibiotics
  • Squalene (an inflammatory chemical)
  • Aborted human fetal tissue
  • Formaldehyde
  • MSG
  • Live viruses
  • HCG, an infertility chemical

Which ingredients are going to be formulated into the coronavirus vaccine?

And if the coronavirus vaccine is going to be produced without any real quality control or clinical trials, how will drug companies or government agencies know whether the vaccine is safe?

Vaccine safety isn’t the goal… mass murder and depopulation is the real objective

With LA County recently announcing a plan to keep its residents locked down for another three months, and with the FDA and CDC conspiring with Big Pharma to grant “emergency approval” to vaccines which could not possibly go through the required safety trials, it’s abundantly clear that safety is not the issue.

Even Bill Gates now admits that 700,000 people could experience side effects from a coronavirus vaccine, and some of those side effects no doubt include death.

The real goal here is to corral human beings like cattle and subject them to a “kill switch” vaccine injection, which will obviously be engineered with infertility chemicals (soft kill) and engineered elements that cause a cytokine storm death upon a subsequent infection (hard kill). Depopulation has been the goal all along. That’s why they need all the RFID tracking technology: to make sure they’ve injected everyone while tracking now “refuseniks” to be arrested and injected at gunpoint.

And that’s why vaccine mandates are going to be aggressively resisted by the “human resistance” members, who are already aware that the US military is being prepared for a vaccine mandate deployment mission on US soil. President Trump, meanwhile, has become the “vaccine president” and has apparently gone all-in with Big Pharma, pushing his “Operation Warp Speed” project that makes a mockery of the very idea of “evidence-based medicine” or vaccine safety.

Resistance against coronavirus vaccines is already accelerating. It looks like even mainstream conservatives are going to fight to resist the coming vaccine mandates, while so-called “pro choice” progressives are going to claim the government owns your body and can forcibly inject you with anything they want, including experimental, unproven vaccine cocktails. One thing that has emerged from all this is how conservatives are now more skeptical of vaccines than ever before… and the battle for medical choice is rapidly gaining awareness.

It’s clear that any effort by Trump or various governors to push mandatory vaccines on the public is likely to be met with determined resistance.

The vaccine wars may be coming to America very soon.

COVID-19 vaccine tracker

Are you prepared to defend your body against an assault with a deadly vaccine weapon?

From a human rights perspective, a mandatory vaccination is an assault with a deadly weapon and a violation of basic human dignity and the rights of personhood. This is self-evident from the fact that vaccines kill people every year in America, a verified fact that’s openly admitted by the government in its quarterly vaccine damage reports (VAERS.HHS.gov).

If vaccines kill and maim people — which they do — then forcing an especially fast-tracked vaccine on someone against their will is a form of violence and a clear felony assault against that person.

If someone is attempting to assault you with a deadly weapon, you have every right to defend yourself under US law. No emergency declaration nullifies your exclusive ownership over your own body. And no legitimate government would ever attempt to claim the right to penetrate your body with dangerous substances without your consent.

This argument is even stronger when you realize that there are many ways a person can boost their immunity against an infectious disease, including having good nutrition (vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, etc.) and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that avoids toxic prescription medications such as blood pressure drugs. For a vaccine zealot to claim that vaccines are the one and only way to protect public health, while denying the effectiveness of all other strategies, is a horrifying example intellectual fraud.

The fact that vaccines can and do spread other diseases under certain circumstances — such as polio, chickenbox and even the measles — reveals that vaccines may actually harm more people than they help. Because vaccines present the risk of harm, the choice of whether to agree to a vaccine injection must rest with the patient, not the doctor nor the government. This is a basic principle of western medicine: Informed consent. (And “First, do no harm.”) In fact, it is codified under medical ethics rules of the American Medical Association.

Without informed consent, we don’t have a system of medicine at all. In its place, we have a system of authoritarian medical tyranny — essentially a medical police state.

HWA – CARDIO EXERCISE GOOD FOR MORE THAN YOUR HEART

CARDIO EXERCISE GOOD FOR MORE THAN YOUR HEART

You probably already know that cardio, or “aerobic,” exercise — the kind that gets your heart pumping — is good for your ticker. It lowers your resting pulse and strengthens your heart muscle. That’s why, as you slowly lengthen your cardio workouts, you’re able to go for longer time and distance. But your heart isn’t the only part of your body that benefits.

Heart Health Is Just the Start

It lowers your resting pulse and strengthens your heart muscle.

Cardio may be good for your shut-eye. Scientists know that it can help you keep an even mood, wind down at bedtime, and set up a healthy sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). The exact brain effects aren’t always clear, but people who exercise more tend to get more of the deep “slow wave” sleep that helps renew the brain and body. But try not to exercise too close to bedtime, which disrupts sleep for some people.

Lower Your Blood Sugar

Cardio exercise helps lower blood sugar (glucose) levels and improve insulin resistance if you have diabetes.

HWA-FDA APPROVES FIRST AT HOME SALIVA TEST FOR COVID 19

FDA APPROVES FIRST AT HOME SALIVA TEST FOR COVID 19

The first COVID-19 test using saliva samples that patients collect at home has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The emergency use authorization was issued to Rutgers Clinical Genomics Laboratory for the diagnostic test using home-collected samples. Patients return their sample to the New Jersey-based lab in a sealed package for analysis.

First U.S. Company Announces an Upcoming Home COVID-19 Test | Time

The screening is the only authorized test that uses saliva samples to check for the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19. It is available only with a prescription.

Last month, the FDA gave emergency authorization for the first at-home COVID-19 test using a sample taken from the patient’s nose with a nasal swab and saline.

“Authorizing additional diagnostic tests with the option of at-home sample collection will continue to increase patient access to testing for COVID-19,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in an agency news release. “This provides an additional option for the easy, safe and convenient collection of samples required for testing without traveling to a doctor’s office, hospital or testing site.”

At-home saliva testing has several advantages over traditional nasal testing, in which a health care worker inserts a swab deep into the patient’s nose and rotates it to extract a sample.

Besides being invasive and uncomfortable, the nasal test requires a potentially contagious patient to leave home and the person administering the test to don personal protective gear.

Since the start of the pandemic, Hahn said FDA has authorized more than 80 COVID-19 tests, and adding more options for at-home sample collection is an important advance.

“It is important to note that this is not a general authorization for at-home collection of patient samples using other collection methods, saliva collection devices, or tests, or for tests fully conducted at home,” the FDA news release said.

Do know that you are giving your DNA over to the government to own.  You are sending you DNA, to a government supported genomics laboratory. If you have no symptoms, you do not need a test.

HWA-IS CORONAVIRUS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED

IS CORONAVIRUS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED

Traces of the COVID-19 coronavirus have been found in the semen of some severely infected men, raising the possibility that the virus might be sexually transmitted, a new study from China claims.

Researchers found evidence of the virus in six men out of a group of 38 COVID-19 patients at Shangqiu Municipal Hospital in China who provided samples.

The six men included four who were still infected and two who were recovering, the researchers said.

The study was led by Dr. Weiguo Zhao of the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing, and findings were published May 7 in the journal JAMA Network Open.

It’s not surprising that the virus was found in semen samples, since it’s also been found in stool and other body fluids, said Dr. Ryan Berglund, a urologist with the Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute.

Infectious viruses commonly are found in semen, with Zika being one recent notable example. The Chinese researchers noted that 27 different viruses have been detected in human semen.

However, Berglund and infectious disease experts warn that this does not constitute concrete evidence that COVID-19 can be sexually transmitted.

“I think that’s premature,” Berglund said. “You have to look at this as a sign that semen, as along with a number of other body fluids, can contain the virus.”

News Picture: Virus Found in Semen of COVID-19 Survivors – Is It Sexually Transmittable?

The new paper comes on the heels of another study from China that found no traces of coronavirus in 34 men with mild to moderate cases of COVID-19. That study was published in late April in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in Baltimore, said “the fact that the novel coronavirus’ genetic material is found in the semen of male patients is an important finding that will need follow-up study.”

Agreeing with the need for further research is Dr. Greg Poland, director of the Vaccine Research Group at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

“To me, it raises a warning, and now we have to attend to that warning and do the research,” Poland said.

But both Adalja and Poland have doubts about the potential for COVID-19 to be sexually transmitted.

“We know the virus is transmitted efficiently through the respiratory route and we have not seen any documented cases of sexual transmission, therefore this may not necessarily represent proof of sexual transmissibility via the male genital tract,” Adalja said.

That being said, there is more we do not know than know, and we need to heed on the side of caution.

Poland noted that the new study relies on testing that only detects traces of genetic material from the coronavirus.

“It doesn’t tell you that it’s whole, viable, infectious virus,” Poland said. “If I ground up the virus and performed this test, it would be positive even though that virus has no infectious potential.”

Even so, the World Health Organization, in February 2020 advised that everyone sleep in their own bedrooms, and abstain from sex.

HWA-MORE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS-COVID TOES,SKIN RASHES

MORE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS-COVID TOES,SKIN RASHES

The virus that causes COVID-19 typically strikes the lungs with full force, but new research shows it can also cause frostbite-like patches on the hands and toes, and rashes on the body.

The condition has recently been dubbed “COVID toes.” Fortunately, it isn’t serious and the lesions usually disappear on their own, said Dr. Esther Freeman, director of Global Health Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Are COVID Toes and Rashes Common Symptoms of the Coronavirus ...

“One of the more surprising findings in this epidemic has been the lesions that we’re seeing on people’s toes and hands,” she said.

Freeman noted that COVID toes aren’t caused by exposure to cold, as is frostbite or chilblains. Rather it seems to be an inflammation of the circulatory system that shows up as a skin rash.

“It’s really important to reassure the public that most of our patients who are developing COVID toes are doing very well, so they’re often patients who have a benign clinical course. They either are having mild disease or often their only symptom might be their toes,” she said.

Freeman said that COVID toes don’t just happen to children, as some have believed — adults also get them.

Should you develop COVID toes, you’re not likely to end up in an intensive care unit. “That’s not what we’re seeing in the data,” said Freeman.

Skin rashes aren’t always associated with viruses, but measles, herpes and chickenpox are conditions where skin eruptions are the main symptoms, so it’s not unheard of, Freeman noted.

She can’t say how common COVID toes are because the data that would include the number of cases of COVID-19 and COVID toes doesn’t exist. Freeman is compiling a registry of known COVID toe cases.

Anecdotally, she’s seeing a lot more cases than usual. “In addition to running the registry, I see patients myself through tele-dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and I have seen more toes in the past two weeks than I have in the rest of my career,” Freeman said.

If you have what you think might be COVID toes, don’t panic, Freeman said. Don’t rush off to the emergency room, but don’t ignore it either. The best thing to do is contact your doctor or dermatologist, she added.

Also, don’t try to get a COVID-19 test. “You should talk to your health care provider and decide the risks and benefits for your particular case. It’s important to go by local testing guidelines. It’s not as simple as a yes-no, but I think that it should be considered a COVID-19 infection,” Freeman said.

Dr. Raman Madan is a dermatologist at Northwell Health Huntington Hospital in Huntington, N.Y. He said, “COVID toes is the most common finding I have seen in patients via tele-dermatology. It is a fairly new symptom that we usually do not see with a lot of viruses.”

Traditionally, the condition would result from being out in the cold for a long time or having a rheumatologic problem, he said.

“With COVID-19, I have been seeing it in a lot of young, healthy people. There is still a lot to be learned,” Madan said.

A lot of patients have been asymptomatic aside from the toes and have been testing negative on their viral culture, but positive on their antibody test, Madan said.

“This has led me to believe that this may occur at the convalescent stage of illness, meaning after the body has cleared the virus. We are still working on the best guidance to give patients,” he said.

Two recent reports detail cases of COVID-19 and show that hands and toes aren’t the only places rashes appear.

In one, researchers described a patient in Wuhan, China, with COVID-19 who developed a rash on the torso. The researchers believe the rash was caused by an immune response to the virus and the patient tested positive for the Epstein-Barr virus, which has been tied to COVID-19. The rash disappeared within a week, but the patient died from COVID-19.

In the second case, a Spanish man suffering from COVID-19 developed a rash on his thighs and buttocks. The rash went away after five days and the patient left the hospital after 12 days. The researchers assume that the rash was a reaction to the virus.

HWA-WHAT IS COVID 19 LOCKDOWN DOING TO OUR MENTAL HEALTH

What Is the COVID-19 Lockdown Doing to Our Mental Health?

In the time of COVID-19, things move fast—and that goes for research, too. In fact, researchers out of the University of Sydney and the University of Adelaide in Australia have already conducted and published a study about the wellbeing of adults going through lockdown due to the virus.

sad lockdown

Researchers wanted to know: How does all this time cooped up under such stressful circumstances affect people’s health? Well, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected people mentally, as well as physically, says a study published in Psychiatry Research. Sure, it may seem like a no-brainer. But now we have evidence to prove it.

The main findings of the preliminary study include:

  • Adults in locations more affected by the virus experienced distress, lower physical and mental health, and reduced life satisfaction.
  • Adults who had existing chronic health conditions were at increased risk of lowered mental and physical health during lockdown.
  • Adults who had stopped working during lockdown were also at higher risk of harm to their mental and physical health.

To gather this data, researchers spoke to 369 adults living in 64 Chinese cities after they have been living in isolation due to measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 for one full month (in February of 2020).

The public's top concerns about coronavirus and mental health

“As many parts of the world are only just beginning to go into lockdown, we examined the impact of the one-month long lockdown on people’s health, distress and life satisfaction,” said study author Stephen Zhang, Ph.D., associate professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Adelaide, in a news release. He says the study may act like a “crystal ball” for what’s ahead for people in other countries where lockdown measures are approaching that one-month mark, like Australia and the United States.

The study suggests that adults with chronic medical issues reported lower life satisfaction during the outbreak—notable, considering the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that those certain chronic health conditions like diabetes and heart disease are at an increased risk of severe complications should they get ill with COVID-19.

Employment situations played a major role, too: Of those surveyed, more than one-fourth continued to go to work in an office setting. Thirty-eight percent worked from home, and 25 percent stopped work completely during the outbreak.

“We weren’t surprised that adults who stopped working reported worse mental and physical health conditions as well as distress,” study co-author Andreas Rauch, a professor at the University of Sydney, said in the news release. “Work can provide people with a sense of purpose and routine, which is particularly important during this global pandemic.”

Petition · Robert Bell: Increase mental health screening for newly ...

Another interesting finding in this study? Those who exercised more than 2.5 hours per day during lockdown reported lower life satisfaction, and those who exercised for half an hour or less reported positive life satisfaction. The study authors found these results surprising.

“It’s possible adults who exercised less could better justify or rationalize their inactive lifestyles in more severely affected cities,” said Dr. Zhang. “More research is needed but these early findings suggest we need to pay attention to more physically active individuals, who might be more frustrated by the restrictions.” While physical health is a major concern during this time, don’t let your mental health fall by the wayside. The CDC reports that it’s normal to feel extra stressed, anxious, or afraid during the COVID-19 pandemic—so it’s all the more important to take proactive steps to support your mental health during these unprecedented times. That may mean seeking the support of a therapist via telehealth, practicing self-care and relaxation techniques, and focusing on what you can control, experts say.

Other ways to cope with stress during this time include the following, per the CDC:

  • Listen to your body’s needs. During this stressful time, making your body a priority can be helpful. That may look like taking deep breaths, eating healthy meals, getting enough sleep, and staying active.
  • Take breaks from the news. When you turn on the TV or scroll through social media, it’s all pandemic talk, all the time. Taking a time-out from consuming news on the virus can be good for your mental health.
  • Make time for connection. We may be social distancing right now, but there are still ways to connect with others. Schedule video calls with friends and family to stay in touch and find support.

HWA-LICHEN PLANUS AND LICHEN SCLEROSIS

Lichen Planus and Lichen Sclerosis: These Conditions May Mimic Yeast Infection or Herpes

Lichen Planus Clinical Presentation: History, Physical Examination ...

There are several gynecologic conditions that share similar symptoms. Vaginal itching, irritation, burning, and lesions or sores are most commonly associated with yeast infections or genital herpes. But when those two are ruled out, there are even more possibilities. For example, two vulvar skin conditions, called lichen planus and lichen sclerosus, can cause similar symptoms.

Lichen Planus: Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Risks

What Is Lichen Planus?

Genital lichen planus is a dermatological (skin) condition that affects the vulva (outer genital area), vagina, and anus. In women, the condition can lead to scarring and chronic inflammation of the vulva, which may cause sexual dysfunction, according to Drexel Medicine.  Men can also get genital lichen planus, which shows up as pink, shiny, flat-topped papules in the genital area, according to a 2015 report.

This skin condition can also develop on other areas of the body, such as the inside of the mouth, the wrist, the ankles, and the lower back, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. While the cause of lichen planus remains unclear, it is considered to be a chronic autoimmune skin disorder with periods of flare-ups and remission. It may be contagious, with different variables, so it is always good to be cautious.

Lichen planus - Stock Image - C040/2238 - Science Photo Library

What Are the Symptoms of Vulvar Lichen Planus?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the following are possible symptoms of lichen planus:

  • Bumps and patches on the skin that itch
  • Soreness, burning, and tenderness
  • Blisters and open sores that may make urination and sexual intercourse painful
  • Pale appearance or white lacy pattern on the vulva
  • Yellowish discharge
  • Fragile and thin vaginal skin, which sometimes causes cracking and bleeding
  • If left untreated, this skin condition can erode the vaginal skin tissues, especially the labia minora (inner vaginal folds).

It is not difficult to understand how some women may mistake these symptoms for genital herpes (the presence of painful lesions) or some other sort of infection (itching, burning, and soreness).

What Is Lichen Sclerosus?

Lichen sclerosus is another chronic, auto-immune-inflammatory skin disease affecting the genital region that can mimic the symptoms of an infection such as a yeast infection or genital herpes. Lichen sclerosus can occur alongside lichen planus or can develop from erosive lichen planus (where the labia minora shrink and fuse to the labia majora).

Science Source - Lichen Sclerosus

What Are the Symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus?

The main symptoms are itching and soreness, according to the NIH. There may be white, shiny patches on the vaginal skin. Some people may have blisters and bleeding in the vaginal area and may notice that their skin tears and bruises easily. Lichen sclerosus can be extremely painful, making sexual intercourse a source of physical distress.

Non-infectious inflammatory genital lesions - ScienceDirect

What Are the Risk Factors for Lichen Sclerosus?

As with lichen planus, the cause of lichen sclerosus is unclear, but it may be related to an overactive immune system or hormones, according to the NIH. One study completed in 2008 found that women who have psoriasis may be more susceptible to being diagnosed with lichen sclerosus. It is more common in postmenopausal women as well, according to a report by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

However, because of the similarities to other conditions, such as genital herpes, vaginitis, or yeast infections, some women may not realize they have lichen sclerosus or mistake it for other gynecological problems.

If left untreated, lichen sclerosus can progress and cause serious effects. In rare cases, it’s associated with an increased chance of vulvar cancer. About 4 percent of women with lichen sclerosus develop vulvar cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.

a) Lichen sclerosus with dry, atrophic skin, vanishing of the ...

How to Get Treatment for These Symptoms

If you are experiencing itching, burning, soreness, bleeding, fissures, thick white patches of skin, or ulcers or blisters in the vulvar area, you should see your gynecologist. Most doctors will be able to diagnose these conditions by doing a vulvar skin biopsy.

Don’t try to guess at what these symptoms mean or try to self-diagnose. Many women suffer needlessly from lichen planus and lichen sclerosus because they think it is some sort of recurring yeast infection. Although both of these genital skin conditions can be chronic and without a definitive cure, there is treatment that is extremely effective. An early diagnosis and treatment can prevent pain, scarring, and damage to the vulvar skin and tissues.

While these conditions can’t be cured, they can be treated and managed. Cortisone creams have been found to be effective in reducing symptoms. Some people find that over-the-counter antihistamine creams help reduce pain and itching.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the world, scientists and researchers are scrambling to learn more about the virus and how it’s transmitted. In the meantime, unless you’re an essential worker, you’re probably under a lockdown or social distance order of some kind, which means you’re supposed to stay indoors and avoid other people as much as possible.

For runners, this poses a frustrating challenge. How do you fit your regular exercise in? Is outdoor running simply too much of a health risk? No doubt you’ve heard a variety of different takes on the topic. To get some answers, we spoke with three different medical professionals for their take on some of the biggest running questions. A major takeaway: It’s all about what makes you and others feel safe.

Is running outside even safe right now? What if I’m at high risk? The short answer is “yes,” but it really comes down to what you’re comfortable with. “Running outside at this time is very safe,” asserts Steven E. Mayer, M.D., sports medicine physician at the Northwestern Medicine Running Medicine Clinic in Warrenville, Illinois. “In fact, being outside is safer than being inside, as long as you are continuing to social distance.”

A new study out of China (which is in preprint and has yet to be peer reviewed) looked at 318 COVID-19 outbreaks with three or more cases of infection. The researchers determined that all of these outbreaks happened in indoor venues. If you think about it, this makes sense: air flows more freely outdoors than inside a building. If you’re at high risk for developing serious illness from COVID-19, Dr. Mayer recommends being even more diligent about your running game plan. “Certainly, this does not mean you cannot run outside, but you will want to make sure you avoid people and do not touch anything outside,” he says. Isolated areas are a great option (if you have access to them). If you live in a busy city, try to run in less crowded areas during off-peak hours.

Should I wear a mask? What about gloves?

It depends on where you’re running and if you’ll have to touch anything. As of April 13, the CDC is recommending that people wear cloth face coverings in places where social distancing is difficult to maintain. So, if you’re going for a run in your quiet suburb, or a 6 A.M. jaunt through your local park, it probably won’t be hard to stay six feet from other people.

If you live somewhere like New York or Chicago, and you tend to run in crowded places at busy times, you might consider getting a face covering. This can help protect you from infection, but equally important, it will make those around you feel more at ease. You’ll need something breathable, so try a neck gaiter that’s designed for runners (they’re usually used to protect your face from cold wind in the winter, or for sun protection in the summer). You could also try a cotton bandana.

Gloves are probably only necessary if you know you’ll have to touch a public surface. “In parks, people might need to use the bathroom, so it is advisable to wear gloves and make sure once you have touched any surfaces to discard the gloves,” says Rashid Chotani, M.D., Vice President for Medical Affairs at CareLife Medical in Fairfax, Virginia. If you use cotton gloves, make sure to wash them before using them again to avoid spreading germs around. If you use latex gloves, you can throw them away after one use. And if you don’t have any gloves (they’re in short supply these days), the CDC recommends using hand sanitizer after you touch public surfaces.

Do I need to stay more than six feet apart from other runners?

You might have seen that Belgian study that went viral–you know, the one that urges runners to stay at least 13 to 16 feet behind other runners? The study authors claimed that airborne particles travel differently when a person is in motion, so you’re in danger of running “through” someone’s respiratory droplets even if you’re running six feet behind them.

It’s a scary claim, but it’s also a controversial one. The study was posted without the backing of a peer-reviewed journal, and some experts have pushed back against its core hypothesis. Dr. Mayer explains that since the study is based on a computer-simulated model, it represents a hypothetical scenario. “There is no epidemiological data to suggest that endurance athletes are spreading the disease any more than others in the population,” he notes.

That said, you really can’t be too cautious. Earl Kilbride, M.D., is a sports medicine specialist at Texas Orthopedics in Austin, Texas, and he also happens to be an avid runner. Dr. Kilbride points out that in Austin, the Parks and Recreation Department has converted city trails to a “one-way traffic” model–a decision he agrees with. One-way running traffic might not be possible in your area, in which case, just do the best you can to stay at a distance from others.

Should I hold my breath when I pass someone?

“I don’t think runners need to do this, but walkers are different,” Dr. Kilbride says. “I would recommend masking as opposed to holding your breath.” (Plus, mask-wearing when walking, as opposed to running, is less likely to restrict your ability to breathe.) Dr. Mayer agrees that holding your breath when running is optional. “You can hold your breath when you pass somebody, but the risk is low [for COVID-19 transmission] as long as you are keeping your distance.”

Should I wash my clothes immediately afterwards?

Again, not a bad idea, but it’s really up to you. Dr. Kilbride says it’s smart to wash your clothes and shower after running if you’re worried you might have been exposed or gotten too close to other people. Dr. Chotani and Dr. Mayer agree. “Washing your hands and changing your clothes immediately after your run is a good idea,” Dr. Mayer says. “I do not feel that it is necessarily high risk, but common sense would indicate that doing so would be smart.” The CDC notes that while COVID-19 is transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets, there is evidence that it can last for an unknown period of time on many different materials. Until more is known about the virus’ ability to live on fabric, post-workout laundry is a good way of playing it safe.

Should I leave my shoes outside the door?

Dr. Kilbride always does this after his runs! It’s another precaution that may help you feel safer. Dr. Chotani also recommends it. Dr. Mayer says this is only really necessary if you’re worried you came into contact with the virus during your run. “You could consider wiping [shoes] down,” he says. “There is certainly nothing wrong with keeping them outside or in the garage.”

It’s important to keep in mind that every runner’s situation will be different. City dwellers encounter the most obvious challenges. If you live in a small town or rural area, you probably have an easier time socially distancing during your runs. Be smart, be cautious, and take whatever precautions you need to feel safe when you’re outdoors–whether or not you’re running.
